WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE DIE 8

What happens when we die 8

In the previous section we saw that there is no immortality in human beings. When we die we are just dead, nothing more, nothing less.
There is only One that is immortal.
1 Timothy 6:15-16 "........... He who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords,
who ALONE HAS IMMORTALITY; ............... to whom be everlasting power. Amen".
Jesus is the only One who is immortal.
Now what about the soul? Surely the soul cannot die? To answer this question we should maybe ask, 'what is a soul'. Interesting to know that the King James Version use the word 'soul' 1 600 times, but never even once 'immortal soul'.

To get there we are going via another word that is used 53 times in the King James Version; the word 'sleep'. Your translation might at times use 'lie down' or another word. Please read the full verse from your Bible.
Job 7:21 "........... now shall I sleep in the dust"
Acts 13:36 "For David, ...... fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, ......"
1 Thessalonians 4:13 "But I would not have you to be ignorant, ...... concerning them which are asleep, ....." Read also verses 14 and 15.
Mark 5:39 ".......... the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth".
What does it mean, in Biblical terms, to be asleep? Does it have the same meaning? Unless somebody or something wakes you, do you know what is happening around you while you sleep? No. Even a light sleeper first have to wake up to know what is happening around him.
If we go back to Job 7:21, Acts 13:36 and 1 The 4:13 to 15 and read the full verses, we will see that this sleep means nothing else but being dead or dying. Although Mark 5:39 seems to suggests something else, Jesus is telling us here that what is the end to us, is not to Him. It is only the end when He decides its the end. If He chooses to 'wake you up' from your 'sleep', He can do so.
We are taught that man is created in three seperate entities; mind, body and soul. Is this correct?
Genesis 2:7 "And the Lord God formed man of the DUST of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the BREATH of life; and man became a living SOUL".
We have got the three entities; or do we? Let us read the verse again but carefully this time. God formed the body, then He breathed into his nostrils and; read carefully, man BECAME a living soul. What would this verse look like mathematically? Something like this:
Body of dust + Breath of life = Living Soul.
Man did not receive a soul, he became a living soul when the body and breath came together. Simple maths: 1 + 2 = 3. If you take the 2 away you will never end up with 3. If you take the breath away, you end up with only a dead body.
Stop right there! Are you trying to deceive me? At this point you call me names; hopefully nothing that a Christian should not utter. Your whole life you believed that everybody has a soul, not became a soul. The Bible teaches in other verses that the soul is seperate; or does it?
Let us look at other verses.
Genesis 35:18 "And it came to pass, as her (Rachel) soul was in departing, (for she died) ..........."
If we read it like that we understand that her soul was leaving her and going somewhere else. To really understand what is meant here, we need to look at the translated word 'soul' from the original text in Hebrew.
What does the Strong's Concordance say?
The original word that was used here for 'soul'  is 'nephesh'. (H5315 in Strong's). It comes from 'naphash' (H5314 in Strong's). This is " a primitive root; to breathe".
Now read the verse again, "And it came to pass, as her breathe was in departing, (for she died) .........". It simply means she stopped breathing.
Ecclesiastes 12:7 "Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it".
Let us go to Strong's again.
'spirit'- 'ruach' (original Hebrew word) (H7307 in Strong's) 'wind'; by resemblance breath, that is sensible (or even violent) exhalation".
Now use the word 'breath' in the place of 'spirit' in the verse. It says that the person's breath is leaving his body. The Afrikaans speaking people would understand me perfectly if I say, 'Hy het sy laaste asem uitgeblaas'.
1 Kings 17:21-22 "And he (Elijah) streched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul come back into him again.
And the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived".
The word 'soul' here is the same as used in the case of Rachel, Gen 35:18. Elijah was pleading with God to make the child breathe again.
Let's go spooky.
Genesis 25:8 "Then Abraham gave up the ghost, and died in a good old age, ......"
Genesis 25:17 ".......... Ismael ...... And he gave up the ghost and died; ......"
Genesis 35:29 "And Isaac gave up the ghost, and died, ........"
Strong's, help!
The original Hebrew word used for 'ghost' is 'gava'. (H1478 in Strong's). This is " a primitive root; to breathe out, that is, (by implication) expire: - die, be dead, give up the ghost, perish".
Mark 15:37 "And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost".
This is the New Testament, so the original language is Greek.
The word used here for 'ghost' in Greek is 'ekpneo'. (G1606 in Strong's). It means "to expire: -  give up the ghost".
John 19:30 "When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished; and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost".
This time another Greek word was used.
The word for 'ghost' here is the Greek word 'pneuma'. (G4151 in Strong's). It is where we get the word 'pneumatics' (like in pneumatic drill or air drill) from, and also the word 'pneumonia'. It literally means "a current of air, that is breath (blast) or a breeze".
The meaning of words change with time, that is why we need to go back to the original word before translation. In the 1940's the word 'gay' and 'queer' meant 'happy' or 'excitable'. Today it means homosexual. Our own understanding of the Bible can be misleading.
Now we should be able to understand the following verses.
Psalm 104:29 "Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled; Thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust".
Job 27:3 "All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils".
What about my cat, dog, hamster, the lion in the wild or the horse in the stable?
Ecclesiastes 3:19-20 "For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; ..........
All go unto one place; all are dust, and all turn to dust again".
They also die and stay dead like humans.
This has been a long journey, but it is not the end yet. There is still a question or two to answer.
